The Project

This project focused on restoring both structure and appearance to the front yard hardscaping in Rochester after significant damage from a water pipe replacement. More than half of the lawn had been disturbed, and the existing garden edging made from old timber had begun to rot and fail.

We started by removing the deteriorated wooden timbers that bordered the front garden. In their place, we installed stone retaining blocks to create a cleaner, more durable edge that complements the home and will hold up far better over time.

To ensure long-term stability, the area behind the retaining blocks was properly backfilled with gravel and drainage material. This step is critical in Rochester’s freeze-thaw conditions, helping prevent shifting, cracking, or premature failure of the wall.

Once the hardscaping was complete, we turned our attention to the lawn. The damaged areas were regraded to restore proper slope and drainage, then topped with fresh soil and reseeded. This brought the front yard back to life and tied the new garden wall into a clean, refreshed landscape.

By addressing both the structural and lawn issues at the same time, this project achieved a complete front yard transformation. Our process included:
