The Project

This project involved building a stone fireplace at the edge of an existing patio to create a natural gathering space and focal point for the backyard in Irondequoit. To keep the design cohesive, we reused rocks from an old pond that was previously removed in another project, giving the fireplace a natural, reclaimed look that ties in with the surrounding landscape.

A solid foundation was essential for this type of structure. We installed six inches of gravel base, compacted it thoroughly, followed by six inches of concrete to support the weight of the stone fireplace. Once the base was complete, the chimney-style stone fireplace was carefully built by hand, with each stone placed for strength, balance, and appearance.

The finished stone fireplace anchors the patio space and extends the usability of the outdoor area into cooler evenings. This project is part of a larger project including an adjacent paver patio with a gazebo and seating area and natural stone patio, creating a cohesive outdoor living space that is both functional and visually stunning.
